my co-workers make fun of me- they say i eat like a rabbit and pretend to "order food" for me when we are having lunch in days (mostly because of my multiple food allergies). i take it all in stride though and sometimes it is REALLY funny! They'll say stuff like, "hey ann make sure amy's has extra coconut!!!!" i know its all in fun and the only other girl in my department appreciates that although i eat very healthy at lunch and b-fast, i will never let her eat chocolate alone! even if its only a small piece!
I guess it would be different if i were working with all women, but guys tend not to say stupid comments out of cattyness and meanness, but rather to be goofy..

I've experienced people getting defensive when they hear I'm a nutritionist. One woman actually called me a "quack". Huh?? How can anyone argue with eating healthily? My sense is that these people feel bad and wrong about themselves to begin with. When they see someone engaging in a healthy lifestyle they feel attacked, even if that wasn't actually the case.

I wrote about this one time...it reminds me of high school, every one watching in terms of insecurity and feelings of competition.

I wouldn't buy a cheap watch. If you really want it, you should spend the money on it. What do you think it would ADD to your health?

I totally know what you feel like in being the odd one out. We all feel that way sometimes, I think. But it's hard to feel included when others aren't practicing healthy habits.

I could never dissect. I would have to leave the room because it just got me.

I am always the odd man out and made fun of. I'm not even that healthy I've had almost a whole box of Annie's chocolate chip bunnies hop into my mouth tonight!

I LOVE to run too.

People make the weirdest assumptions b/c of one's diet & lifestyle choices and usually they are dead wrong. It's annoying and hurtful when comments get said that are totally offbase and hurtful in the process. Believe me, I am a GF, SF, vegan. I get my share. But it's what works for my body. But yes, in certain circles I am soooo far the odd one out. When living in San Diego for the last 5 yrs (just moved to Phoenix) there were other people who were similar and/or just vegan and I had kinda found my tribe in real life. Now, starting over again finding those types....

Sorry that your boss and coworkers were so rude about your healthy eating habits. You should be proud of them! I sometimes feel in the minority, but being around 33 other dietetic interns, I'm not judged as much. I think that people secretly admire those who choose to eat healthfully.

I want a Garmin, but a basic Target watch is good for getting started. I want a Garmin because I'm starting to do longer runs now, and I have no idea what my pace is or exactly how far I'm going. But I've run with a little Target watch FOREVER! :-)
