Macaroons In My Old School Dehydrator

Baby, it’s cold outside!!

Yikes, unintended scary facial expression…

Mallard is still out of town so when the snow fell here in the ‘Nati, I was the one to shovel the driveway.  I broke out my Ski Coat circa 2006 to keep me warm.

I also broke out my warm up pants from high school cheerleading.

Completed with the sweatshirt that I recieved from my high school boyfriend back in the day.

Hey, I told you I don’t shop very often!

I have been sick this week but it’s just a sinus infection with some chest congestion…nothing major.  I took a couple of days off from running to give my body a little rest.  I did lift weights the first day which was planned because I have been running 4 days a week and lifting the other three.  By the third day of no running I was itching to run!  I never ever thought that I would want to run so bad!  When I finally did run, I set a new PR.  Hooray!  It’s a time and distance PR but I would rather not share it because it’s really not too far or too fast for the average runner.  But I don’t really consider myself a runner yet :)   I usually walk/run.  This time I ran the majority of the time.   I do love yoga as well.  These days I never seem to have the time to hit the mat though.  Yes, there are yoga downloads and whatnot.  But, since I only practiced yoga for a few short weeks, I feel that I still need to be in a class so that I can be corrected on form.

How many days each week do you run?  If you aren’t a runner, what is your workout routine each week?

Afterward , I made a glorious mess off steamed veggies and Oikos with some new sauce.  I misunderstood Gina’s post on what to eat after a workout.  But, this meal was still freaking amazing.

IMG_1104

The new sauce is something I tried at the in laws’ house a few weeks back.

IMG_1102

The first time I tried this I loved the sweet and spicey flavor.  I was skeptical of the ingredients.  These kind of sauces generally contain HFCS and a lot of chemical crap.

But I was pleasantly surprised

IMG_1103

A little hard to read, but the ingredients are all natural real ingredients.

I discovered another extrememly simple (yes I’m 5) new snack that  I love.  I roasted some carrots with a smidge of EVOO so that I have an easy side in the fridge.  Many times,  I need to feed a hungry Snuffy fast!  I love to eat these with roasted red pepper hummus or as Snuffy says “Mumm-eece” ( pronounce the last syllable as if it rhymes with lease).

What else is new?

A new favorite sweater Do you have a favorite shirt that just makes you feel good?  I love the feeling I get when I put on this sweater.  Thanks Mallard!  Merry Christmas to me

Taken in the bathroom because this is what happens when you try to take pictures of your favorite sweater with toddler in your life

I also unintentionally bought a new sports bra

IMG_1118

Let me explain.  Remember that glorious run after a 3 day hiatus?  Well, I arrived at the community center ready to rock until I removed my running clothes from my bag and found no sports bra.  I don’t know about you ladies, but I cannot run with no sports bra.  So, I did something that I rarely do.  I drove the 4 minutes to the nearest sporting goods store and picked up a new sports bra.  It was needed anyway as I have been wearing 6 year old sports bras…don’t judge.

I finally broke in my Old School Dehydrator with something other than kale chips!

Not exactly incredibly aesthetically pleasing but they are tasty

I found the recipe here.  I literally googled macaroons dehydrator….I told you, I am 5 .  These contained a lot of cacao.  Luckily I like dark chocolate so the mass amount of cacao was fine by me.  However, I let them dehydrate for 24 hours since my Old School Dehydrator has no settings and they were a little dry.  Next time I will only dehydrate for 12 hours.  I would also like to try to make some vanilla macaroons.

This week I learned…

The “Terrible Twos” are for real.  I worked as a nanny right before I became pregnant and I still didn’t fully believe that a child would go through a stage of massive fit throwing and moodiness.  Snuffy is sweet as agave one minute and crying on the floor the next.  But, I am learning how to bring her out of the fits .  It’s amazing that just identifying her frustration helps so much.

My body does need rest once in a while and when I listen to my body I feel so much better in every aspect of my life.  I could never have increased my speed and distance had I not taken a few days off from running to recouperate.

I must never buy diet orange soda again.  It’s addicting and bad for the human body…but it’s so delicious…like artificially made, bottled sunshine.

Anyone with a Sony Handy Cam?  You have to be out there!  I need help.

You look so pretty in that sweater from Mallard :) Roasted carrots are one of my most favorite things – I’ve never tried them dipped in hummus though!

Congrats on your PR, you should be proud :)
I keep hearing about how good roasted carrots are, I’ll have to try them!
And I always wear a sports bra though I doubt I need it haha

Hey, a new sports bra every 6 years is a good thing! I love how Snuffy ends up in your pictures…my dogs do the same thing in the majority of mine.

Sorry, can’t be of camera help!

Glad you went back and re-read my post, but just to let you know, ANY protein is good after a workout. So your Oikos can still be a fantastic post-workout snack!

Having a much younger brother, I also found out that the terrible twos are for real. I’m glad you are focusing and learning how to deal with them. I can just remember many temper tantrums, and I felt bad thinking tha tI had probably done the same!

As for yoga, I try to do it twice a week, btu I have trouble fitting it in during the day, so I tend o do it more at night. I have found that Exercise TV has some fantstic yoga programs! I recommend it.

Love the new sweater, and pink sports bra!

Roasted carrots sound delicious! Were they crunchy?

I do cardio usually 5-6 days a week, usually 3-4 of those HIIT days and the other low intensity. Plus weight lifting almost every day!

I’d love to get into yoga but it’s just not my thing. Maybe someday!

Isn’t it funny the labels that we put on things “I don’t consider myself a record yet?” I am glad you didn’t tell us your PR because I think it inspires sometimes a negative comparison between us “health minded people”. the thing is….you are pushing yourself into a new territory. I am trying to lift weights at least three times a week and IT IS HARD!
Today, I am trying this new 2-miles times three: two mile run, two mile elliptical and two mile bike…we’ll see!
Can you score some of that sauce for me and send it to me? I need something like that! I’ll send something from Germany! (LIKE TEA! Check it out!)

    I still have and wear a sport bra that I bought in 7th grade…I’m 27…yikes. ;)

Those macaroons look so delicious, I wish I had a food dehydrator so I could try them out! Your kale chips would probably also be yummy in that hummus.

Wow! What a workout schedule! Congrats on the double PR, hun – you should be proud:D

Congrats on your PR! I’ve been running for almost a year now, but I do that in addition to other things, like weight lifting and yoga, so I still don’t consider myself a runner either :) When do you think you’ll think of yourself as a “real” runner? I think you get extra points if you have to run around a toddler all day, too!

Love the new sports bra! lol. I specifically requested that my mom get me some for Christmas since I haven’t bough t new ones since BEFORE college! Ugh. Hot mess :) I like the idea of veggies and yogurt, especially with mustard. Sounds delish, but one of those things where D would look at me like i’d lost my mind! xoxo

the fact that you run, eat healthy, go to school and are a mom is something be dayum proud of! who cares how long the run is? a PR is a PR and we all gotta start somewhere!!!!

carrots + hummus = fabulous combination!

  15. 2010 January 15

A PR is a PR – it does not matter how it compares to others’. That’s the beauty of running.

I used to do 3 days a week. Now during winter and I can’t bike outside, I do 3 long run days, then on 3 other days I do a 1 mile run with speed work.

Hi Jenna! I just came across your blog and I am loving it! I thought if answer your question of the day! I run 4-5 x per week. Two of the runs are more shorter, tempo runs. One day is a track workout with my running group. Another is a longer slow distance run! Obviously plans change depending on if I am training, but that seems to be my dilly for now! Can’t wait to keep up with your blog :)
