Hug A Carb
Hey, it’s Thursday!! That means it’s almost Friday! Do you have weekend plans? Mallard has been out of town all week. So, my weekend plan is to spend the entire weekend studying! I am so grateful for the loving comments from my last post. I was concerned that some of you may find that story unnecessary for the blog. I’m glad you welcomed it with open arms!
Check out this giveaway! I am seriously excited about this one!
Onto brighter beginnings…
Let’s start with Monday. Shall we? Some of you avid WBL readers may remember that I buy and bring Snuffy’s own groceries with her to the babysitter. This is to ensure that Snuffy does not subsist on processed junk. On Monday morning, I cautioned Snuffy’s babysitter regarding some tummy troubles Snuffy had the night before. Snuffy was on a bit of a hunger strike as a result. When I arrived to pick Snuff up that evening, I was happy to hear that she had eaten well that day. I was not so happy to hear that she had been given processed, junk-filled, mac and cheese. I have no problem with mac and cheese when it’s the real deal. I have made it clear, though, that I prefer Snuffy to be given only REAL food. Since I am a crazy mom, I made Snuffy some boxed mac and cheese ( I realize it’s still processed to a degree) that was free of junk.
I love that they used a real food for color NOT yellow#5 which seems to be the trend in most processed boxed lies.
This was the 365 brand since it was organic and on the cheap!
I always buy organic dairy products. Hormones, antibiotics, unhappy malnourished cows…no thanks.
I made our mac and cheese with organic milk and Earth Balance olive oil spread.
Snuffy tormented Pedro with other organic dairy products.
The cheese was supposed to be for her but she found better use for it. This fun lasted for about 3 minutes.
The mac and cheese turned out pretty darn good. I did have to add a little more milk than recommended to reach my desired creaminess.
Holy Cheddar, this was good!
Snuffy was a fan too. I froze most of it in serving size containers and handed it to the babysitter the next day. I realize she’s busy as she has a 2 year old son, a new baby boy, and a niece and nephew that she watches. Not to mention, some other random kids on the weekends. But, hey all I ask is that she not give Snuff food with artificial stuff in it. Oh well, we do the best we can.
Like this: I gave Snuffy AB and White Chocolate Wonderful PB with some celery because that was what she chose for her snack
and she decided to let Pedro clean her hands. …eh, whaddya gonna do?
Check out the next two pics as Snuffy and Pedro have the same expression in them
I guess that’s a common expression when enjoying delicious nut butters
I finally got around to trying the PB2 from Special K’s Share Yourself. I recieved my package from Kristie Lynn and I loved it! PB 2 was not the only thing in the box but it was the most exciting.
I mixed some with vanilla So Delicious yogurt.
Then I spread a Joseph’s pita with Naturally More and spread the PB2/yogurt mixture over it.
I ended up just dipping the pita in the PB 2 mixture…yum! Thanks Kristie Lynn!
I also mixed some PB 2 with Naturally More and added yogurt and banana for dessert the next day.
Noticing a trend? I get most of my calcium from dark leafy greens and yogurt. But, I tend to eat lots of yogurt bowl with cereal and ‘nanas.
Anyone have new ideas for my yogurt obsession?
Most of my yogurt bowls contain my go to cereal of choice.
Huggin’ my Carbs for Katie!
Katie has initiated Hug A Carb Month. After the Atkin’s Diet took over a few years back, so many people are still skiddish around this nourishing food group.
Have you ever been on an extremely low-carb diet? I tried Atkins for one week when I was 18 and that was that.
Katie is making a point to show her love for the abused group of foods. (aw, it’s like adopting a puppy from a shelter) I love this girl’s innovative banana recipes and I used them often. So, I was excited to take part in another idea of Katie’s.
Lovin’ my Rolled Oats.
You will notice I am completely worn out in all of these pics.
No worries! It’s just been a tough week at school and work.
Quinoa is another love of mine.
Organic Whole Wheat Angel Hair with Flax…?
What’s your favorite carb?
For all you Biggest Loser watchers…
I ran accross this while I was out and about this week.
I really want to hate her for this… But, I love her straight-shooter personality! Jillian, why do you have to be so wonderfully blunt?!
Do you love her? Do you love to hate her or do you want me to stop wasting your time by blogging about her?
I’m still thinking about posting all of my daily meals and snacks. I’m on the fence because of the mixed advice from other bloggers. Ugh. I love to read the blogs with daily eats. But, I don’t want to burn myself out on food blogging either.
Love

Aww, thanks for mentioning me Jenna – gave me the kick in the booty to finally post again! Loving the pictures of you loving carbs – I think my favorite is the angel hair one, just because posting with spaghetti noodles looks awkward
I know! I never realized how hard it is to take a picture of myself “hugging a carb”! It’s hard to hold the camera and jug the carb simultaneously
My fave carb? Agave, sugar, chocolate…definitely dessert-ey carbs
Thanks for stopping by my bloggie again and I have to say, you and your lil one are an adorable pair. Such cuties you two
my favorite carb is pasta <3
Yay!! You’re so beautiful! Can I post one of the photos on my blog as part of the photoshoot at the end of the month (with a link to your blog, of course)? If so, which one… I can’t choose cuz they’re all so cute!
I think it’s fabulous you have Snuffy eat whole foods! She and Pedro are adorable. I plan on doing the same. MY favorite carb would have to be chewy, doughy, whole grain bread. Love it!
I love your blog! If you don’t feel like posting your daily eats, don’t! But if you do, give it a whirl. I only post mine whenever I feel oh-so inclined or if I eat something extremely noteworthy.
my favorite carbs are kabocha, oat bran, corn and brown rice!
I need to take a pretty pic like yours.
hah I am so with you on the no junk mac n cheese – thats why I adore annies
aww I need to show my oatmeal some loving – they are the best carbs!
I love a good mac and cheese, and a crunchy sourdough, or a hearty whole wheat bread! You tried Adkins? I think many people have, although I have not, I tried the anorexic diet instead…haha.
I have heard a lot of about the PB2, and I really want to try it.
The picture of the dog and Snuffy is hilarious! They really are making the same face! Great photography skills
Have a great weekend.
I love that you are concerned about what Snuffy eats. The majority of parents in US don’t!!!
Hey why use napkins when Pedro can lick a hand clean. Isn’t that somehow environmentally green?!?!
Yummy carbs! My favorite carb is definitely bread or oatmeal. Or squash!
Gotta love carbs
Those pictures are too cute!
I’d have to say bread and brown rice are my favs. Ywah, I try to not do every meal, bc/ I want my blgo to be about my life as well.
mmm i gotta get me some mac and cheese. i haven’t eaten that in YEARS! LOL. i love puffins like you love them. i would hug them TO DEATH. oats, hell yeah. not a fan of the pasta. or bread. =/ KABOCHA is awesome.
Haha, I love all those hug a carb pictures
Awww, Pedro and Snuffy are super cute! The look alike pictures are adorable!
I hear great things about PB2 and yogurt together. I am dying to try the PB2 stuff, but can’t find it anywhere!
i love the carb hugging photos! i need to do some soon! cute photos of your poochie and kiddo too
Every time I see your Sunffy-Girl I see her with all the same stuff my kids have…. we have that exact toddler fork and spoon set! And my kiddos enjoy their mac and cheese on them too!! Ha! I add a jar of organic baby food carrots or squash to mac and cheese for added creaminess. It’s the bomb… try it out!
About day care situations— i HATE it! I want to quit my job so bad. I hate other people raising my kids. Don’t get me started on the meals they serve. I think I’ve told you that I send breakfast in with mine…… I should start sending lunch and snack too!
As for Jillian…. I LOVE her! But I’m so confused on the conflicting stories. On her show and in her books she preaches about being all natural and working hard…. but then the front of her PILL bottle says “Take two pill- THAT’S IT.” I’m like WHAT?!?!? Jillian…. baby…. I’m stumped! I still watch BL but I don’t know about this pill buisness. Makes me sad.

what a cute little girl! I totaly agree with you that processed mac and cheese is not a good idea for kids or anyone really!
I can’t find it in Ohio either! I received mine from Kristie Lynn. But, you can purchase it from their website! You may have to copy it into your browser but, the link
http://www.bellplantation.com/
I think it’s great that you are instilling such healthy eating habits in your daughter already!! I love to use plain yogurt instead of the milk/butter spread combo when I make mac and cheese, it gives it a tangier taste that I think is delicious!
Jenna- I keep meaning to comment on these last two posts but every time I click over in reader, I get distracted and have to do “urgent” things. Like go to work Ugh.
Anyway, loved your last post. thank you so much for sharing and giving us all a reminder that life supposed to be more than (ed, addictions, fear, etc). Love this post too. You are too cute hugging your carbs, which is exactly what I do every day. Yum. Have an excellent weekend my dear! xoxo
ugh i hateeee that JM has her own “diet pills” out! is that not an oxymoron..
hahaha good ole mac n cheese and some carb lovin
I think it’s totally legit to ask your babysitter to respect your wishes and only serve wholesome food…. really, that shouldn’t be SO much to ask, should it?
I don’t have kids, but I am already panicked about when I one day do and they go to their Greek/Italian grandparents house (my inlaws) that will most likely want to fill them up with all of the food that I completely disagree with… any tips for this?
Have a great weekend!
Yup, I love her too – supplements or not. I listened to her podcasts for so long I believe she’s legit and am forever inspired by her!
Love the kiddo and pup pics, what a riot!
I have LOTS of tips. Here are a few:
1. Make your “food rules” clear as early as possible. This sounds crazy. But, you can even begin to mention your concerns while you’re still pregnant. This wasy the relatives are aware early on. By the time your child is old enought for table food, the grandparents will be used to the idea.
2. Have clear guidelines. Can your child have sweets on special occasions? Are you okay with processed meats and cheeses? Do you prefer that he/she only have organic dairy?
3. Enlist the support of your significant other. The “food discussion” was a major one for us. I sat down with my fiance and explained why it was so important to me that our daughter not consume food made with artificial ingredients, non-organic dairy and meat, daily sugary snacks, etc. That way, he could back me up with the in-laws.
Wow, maybe I should do a post on this. Do I have many readers who are interested in this?
Katie,
I’ll be putting up more carb-hugging pics before the end of the month so stay tuned! lol
You are so cute!
I’ve been on the anabolic diet and to this day, it has been the only one that worked! I LOVE it and it was really easy. 25g of carbs or less on the weekdays and on the weekends you have a carbfest. Haha.
oh man! I’d be totally mad at the babysitter too- especially when you make it VERY clear. Hopefully this will be the last time that happens. I love carbs too- I could never give them up. My parents sort of did south beach for a while. I love Jillian! I think her protein concept is great. She made sure it didn’t have any soy in it and that it was made from healthy ingredients. The pills on the other hand? I can’t believe shes endorsing those
Haha, I like this initiative to start loving carbs again! I don’t think I could ever go low-carb, I would seriously kill myself, I love my carbs so much. Actually, I DID once upon a time go low-carb…I was soo afraid of anything carby. Needless to say, I was one nasty, deprived, unhappy uh..bitch back then.
Now, I happily embrace my pasta, kabocha, sweet potatoes, bread, pizza, pancakes, oats…aiii!
Wow, I haven’t talked to anyone it has worked for long-term! That just goes to show that every BODY is different.
hahahaha i LOVE all that carb huggin’ going on! and i love that snuffy requested celery for a snack – i hope when i am a mom, i can say the same for my kids!
Fave carb = oats, most definitely.
I posted a lot of meals/snacks when I first started blogging but evolved into posting more about nutrition in general. I think you just have to find your niche and decide exactly what you want your blog to be about.
LOVE your carbs girl! you are so freakin pretty too!
yeah i do not like that Jillian is now endorsing her own weight loss products. THe whey protein I am ok with because that is mostly for post workout muscle buildin but the diet pills? NO WAY!
oh and i totally tried atkins when I was in high school, yeah that lasted about a week as well. I couldn’t even eat fruit!! it was way too crazy for me and I missed my beloved carbies!
Aww, I love the idea of hugging a carb!! When I first started my weight lifting program last year, I cut waaay back on carbs. I was miserable, and actually ended up getting a belly puff from the excess of dairy I was eating. I still love me some protein, but it’s got to be backed up by some quality fat and fibre
I’ve been listening to Jillian’s podcasts when I go to the gym. I have to admit – I really like her! Having heard her explain the thought process behind her supplements, I can forgive her for it. But she needs to get a new marketing campaign for it. It’s making her look like a joke.
OMG Snuffy and Pedro’s pics just made my morning! Adorable! And I love all your hugging-a-carb pics, too! You are so gorg!
As far as daily eats posting, maybe you could do it three days a week or something. It wouldn’t have to be every day at all! I just loooove all posts from you, so I’ll take whatever you’re dishing out!
Oh fave carb? Delicious, fresh-baked bread, preferably baguette!
Oh, I love carbs of ANY KIND!!! =O
Your dog is so cute, same color as my Peanut who is a “Deerhead Chi”.
Thank you for stopping by my blog………

I had a friend whose daughter drank soy milk because she was lactose intolerant. Every week she sent her daughter to daycare with a new box of soy, but it turned out the daycare never gave it to her so she kept coming home with indigestion. I don’t see any way to make it easier for child care providers than sending food along with the kid — after that, what more can you really do?
Your daughter is adorable btw!
