Halloween Carrots…Scary
So, it’s Monday…
I was a little apprehensive about adding my carb-hugging pics to my last post because I was so mentally and physically drained from the week and it showed. But, low and behold, all of you surprised me with such sweet compliments! I love Blog World!
The weekend begins with Friday, right?
Do you count Friday as part of your weekend even if you’re working?
I suppose one could say that my Friday was pretty relaxed at work. My co-worker celebrated her birthday.
She shared one of her gifts with me! YUM.
and we wore pink for Breast Cancer Research. Actually, I forgot but I had one of my 5,987 pink hoodies with me. So, it was all good. I took a self-pic of my former supervisor and I . Love her!
More excitement: Snuffy ran out of diapers. I’m apologize in advance for this mommy rant. But, Snuffy is ready to potty train. She tells me when she needs to go sometimes. She is 18 months old and she had gone entire evenings without needing a diaper change. However, our babysitter is not training her 2 year old son until “after the holidays”. Plus, she has a 4 week old baby. So, she has told me that she will step up to the plate with Snuffy’s potty training after the holidays as well. Anyway, we went to Sam’s club for our diapers.
Holy oats! Too bad I’m not an instant oat kinda girl.
Snuffy talked to Mallard on my phone (seriously) while we shopped. He was missing her since he’s been out of town with work so much.
She also sampled some Nature’s Valley nut clusters.
She liked them and I almost bought them. Then I looked at the ingredient list.
Not awful. But, I didn’t know what rice maltodextrin was.
We did get the diapers. They came with a free gift!
No, not what you’re thinking
(All day, Snuffy toted around a blush brush that I no longer use…girls)
‘Twas a book! Not bad, but Snuffy thinks there are far too many words per page.
Of course we needed more than just diapers for the upcoming week.
On Saturday, we visitted our usual grocery stops: Whole Foods, Kroger and the “W” word (for Naturally More). I won’t bore you with everything we brought home.
I’ll only bore you a little.
I just realized that the top of this box says “low fat”. That’s not why I buy them. They are made of real ingredients and they’re only $1.69! Snuff is a fan.
Another product made with real ingredients that Snuffy loves…only 95 cents each!!!!
I’m sure you’re shocked that this fell out of my “grocer’s freezer” and into my cart.
I saw these and thought of the Okra Fries that I see so much of on Meghann’s blog.
I was craving fall flavors.
I’m not sure how I want to prepare the squash yet. I may just bake it and devour it.
Anyone have a good Butternut Squash recipe?
I’ve seen a fellow mama making some portabella pizzas recently and I want to try!
We will see how it goes sometime this week.
I was feelin’ carby again. I wanted bagels. The problem is that it’s really hard to find bagels without HFCS and preservatives. Lender’s used to be my fave but their claim to be the “softest” means they have to add preservatives to maintain that teture. I’ve hear Sara Lee has good ingredients. But, I couldn’t find Sara Lee bagels. So, I got tired of reading less than stellar ingredient lists and just picked these up and threw them in the cart.
(Carb hugs for CCK!) Click here for a $10 coupon for some more tasty complex carbs!
I read the ingredients on these after I arrived home.
Hello, preservatives. Guess I won’t be buying these again. But, they are really tasty and they have a fluffy, soft texture. Too bad shelf stability of the texture is due to those lovely preservatives
While I was in the carb hugging mood, I moved my Ezekiel from the freezer to the fridge
And I put my new friend in the pantry and gave it a hug for CCK
Hmmm…reminds me of another friend.
I made an awesome mess with this.
(Milk-pouring shot didn’t turn out like I thought
)
Not so pretty when mixed…reminds me of a reader’s comment on HEAB if you click over, it’s at the very bottom of the post. CD’s comment just makes it funnier.
I uses these in my mess of deliciousness
Naturally More….naturally
Mix It Up
and another one
Rolled Oats cooked in water
Stonyfield Blueberry yogurt that has quickly become a favorite of mine
Vanilla Almond Milk (unsweetened)
Kashi Go Lean (what up, girl!)
Fresh Blueberries!
All mixed up
As you can imagine , we go through A LOT of yogurt.
This week’s supply.
We also go through lots of ‘nanas. But, Snuffy only wants half most of the time. When I’m not up for the other half, I must find a way to preserve the remaining ‘nana (let’s not be wasteful).
A few weeks back I found this banana clip at Kroger.
It has little teeth that hold the open part of the banana against a tiny wall so that it doesn’t turn gross.
When it’s in place, the banana looks whole.
I usually buy my bananas green so they last longer.
Organic produce doesn’t last as long as it’s chemically coated friends.
Case in point: scary carrots. They were black and orange for Halloween. No thanks. I found these while making room for new produce. You know your carrots have gone bad when the have begun to grow fur. Normally, we use all the produce that I buy for each week. Not this time.
I also decided to try something new…well, kind of. I’ve never had figs that weren’t in bar form. So, when I saw them at F, I wanted to see what the real deal was like.
Not as sweet as I thought they would be but still mighty tasty
While we were in a snacking mood, I made a plate of veggies and chick’n (random starving combination) for Snuffy and I. By the time I took this pic, we had already started to devour the randomness.
Then we had to get back to work.
Not the correct way to unload dishes but helpful indeed!
I put the rest of our groceries away.
I don’t find it crucial to buy organic eggs.
I do like to have eggs that are local, grain fed, and free of cages, hormones and antibiotics.
Check!
Sunday started with a waffle breakfast.
Snuffy’s Plate
We use the good stuff not that Light Mrs. B like I used to buy
We needed a good breakfast to fuel our next adventure….
A walk to the neighborhood ponds to feed the geese and ducks!
Mallard got home on Sunday and Snuff was so excited to spend time with him. I was glad to have some family time.
We brought along the entire family.
Peanut (Mallard’s dog) is always ready for a walk. In fact, she knows what “walk” means along with “work” and many other words.
I found an old stale dog treat and let Snuffy give it to Pedro. He had trouble chewing it.
It was pretty comical. Hey Laura, does your Chihuahua make these crazy faces?
There are literally hundreds of houses in our neighborhood. We saw a few that are now empty (darn economy). Of course, Snuffy was fascinated with the un-mowed lawn and old fences of the few empty homes.
Finally we found our fowl!
We fed them the bread that we had brought from home. No HFCS in your bread today, guys!
When it was time to go Snuffy waved and said , ” ‘ Bye Ducks!”
She thought it necessary to turn around and say her goodbyes after about every 10 feet of walking.
Sorry for the Snuffy photo shoot. My Mama Photography got a lil outta hand! I hope your Monday rocked your socks off!!
See you soon!
J.

Holy moley that was a long, awesome post! Ok Snuffy is just about 1 yr younger than my daugther, mine is maybe 14 mos older than Snuffy, her bday is Feb 2 and she’ll be 3. Not that you care…but the potty learning. Mamma, do I ever understand. Mine tells me in full, complete sentences that she would prefer to go peepee in a diaper. And that we need to go to Target to get her more diapers. Yes, it sucks. I dont want to force anything on her, so I am just still doing diapers. But it sucks bigtime and I am ready for big girl panties and no more diapers! Sorry to anyone else who is reading this; but mom’s get it that the whole potty learning thing is a huge milestone
Anyway, I hope you have luck sooner than we did. B/c at 18 mos mine was showing all the readiness signs like yours is….there’s just been no progression past that LOL
Your nose piercing is super cute BTW. I had mine in h.s. and college but let it close up. I still have my tongue though
Snuffy…is SUCH a darling…Just wondering. Is that her real name? It’s dang cute though!
omg you and snuffy are adorable! I love the carbies! kashi go lean is a staple in my house! it is so good in yogurt or soy milk or anything! that so delicious yogurt looks great!
for my butternut squash I cube it then throw it in a pot of boiling water and when it is fork tender, i mash it up with cinnamon and vanilla extract! Mashed cinnamony butternut squash! this is so good, just one of many recipes!
No need to apologize for Snuffy pictures – she is a cutie and I think we all love to see her
I don’t know if you’re a big roasted vegetable fan, but roasting up butternut squash, carrots and parsnips with a bit of oil, maple syrup and cinnamon is *so good*. Just in case you don’t find a way to use the squash. Also, I like that it’s labeled baked butternut squash.
you got so many of my favorite products! Amys bowls are the best frozen entrees in the entire world!!! Squash? my fav recipe is to make fries with it and topped with tons of cinnamon. Those Thomas mini bagels are great… I used to buy it every week.. love it with Almond butter!
And finally kashi with yogurt? oh mine!!! I can’t even buy it because I could finish the box in one sitting!!!
You are one gorgeous lady! Despite all of the things you do (work, school, be a mama, cook great/healthy meals)- you still manage to look awesome! I’m totally jealous
Great buys! I love finding good stuff at Costco. We haven’t been in forever and need to make a trip.
For the squash:

I love seeing little kids eating broccoli!
It looks liek you made some EXCELLENT purchases! I especially like the banana clip from Kroger, great idea!
I love the Kashi cereal you bought. IN fact I’m eatin git right now
Snuffy is so cute that I seriously wouldn’t mind seeing 100 pictures of her in a post. And the puppy pictures are 100 percent adorable as well!
I love how much care is put into your purchases. I don’t do that at all, but it makes me think about things for sure!
Hope you have a great week!
You and Snuffy are both so cute.
Do you have a Costco near you? If so, switch from Sam’s. Our Costco carries Quaker old fashioned oats, Maranatha almond butter, and both Chobani and Fage Greek yogurt plus all kinds of Kashi cereals…diapers too.
Freeze the other half of your bananas. They are so good sliced up – taste like banana ice-cream. Love frozen chopped bananas in my cereal messes! Plus, nothing makes a smoothie better than a frozen banana.
I think your bowl of diarrhea looks perfectly delicious.
By the way. Regarding your comment on my post, who is this doctor that is selling a diet pill and only accepts cash?! Sounds VERY scary to me! Yikes. How are people so stupid?!
Seriously, you are TOO CUTE! I could never choose just one photo for the Carb Post. You hafta choose for me… otherwise I might just have to put them all up LOL!
I love this post! Snuffy is just adorable! I usually make butternut sqaush fries.. it’s my favorite way to eat it!
Looks like you guys had fun in the park. I love counting Fridays as the weekend. We usually get off work ealry and it’s a laid back day at the office.
Never ever EVER apologize for mom pictures!! I go crazy with my camera too when my kiddos are around! They are just too darn cute! As for the bagels…. don’t feel bad about those either!! You eat REALLY REALLY well!! So one item that you LOVE has a couple not-so-great items. We can’t eat like cave people!! Your bagels aren’t even BAD….. just not PERFECT! I get overwhelmed when I start looking ant ingredient lists too….. but if you love it and all the other foods you eat are great you can have them! Don’t feel bad girl! Love those carbs!
I DO!!!!

As always Snuffy melts my heart!!
cute pink hoodie
that is such a nifty banana thing! and peanut is a doll!
I loved all the pictures!
Heather, I actually do freeze the other half sometimes. I usually freeze the over-ripe bananas as well. I love to add “banana soft-serve” to my oats! It sweetens thm nicely. We do have a Cosco close and I would love to switch. But, our Sam’s membership is free because 2 years ago, when I was pregnant, Mallard picked up a second job there. Oh, and my bowl was delicious!
Gina, I will have to find out the name. It is scary. They don’t care though. They just want to “get skinny”. This stuff knocks out their appetites and then they continue to eat junk in smaller amounts. It’s insanity.
I died at that pic of Snuffy of the Blackberry!! Love it!
You certainly picked up some good eats, mi amiga… Now I’m sort of in the mood for WF mac & cheese shells? haha
The banana saver is a cool little gadget. I hate it when bananas turn all gross.
OOOH what a cute banana saver! LOL! i kinda want some of those shells…and waffles….
You and your daughter are so beautiful! I loved all your food pictures – I am pretty sure my coworker heard my stomach growl – haha. Snuffy is one cutie-pie, I am quite certain no one could see enough of that face.
snuffy is sooooo dang cute! seriously, the pic of her looking through her legs is classic. i hope to be a mom who can show such a good example to her kids – especially through always having lots of kinds of yogurt on hand
I know! I think finding bagels is the worst! And soy in EVERYTHING–Blah! Oh well. Yay for all the carby love. xoxo
I totally agree – organic produce does not last as long as conventionally grown. I know that’s how it “should be” but sometimes it’s a little frustrating having had our expectations set by fruits and veggies bathed in chemicals!
That banana holder is a riot – perfect for kiddos!
Awww, shes so cute!
That banana clip is awesome! I was wondering what its purpose was for in the beginning. I thought it would be like a banana holder type thing. Haha. I always end up throwing half eaten bananas in the trash! I definitely need to invest in that clip.
This post warmed my lil heart. Feeding the ducks at the pond by my house was seriously my favorite thing to do as a child.
A little late but the new blog looks GREAT!
Love the carb hugging photos
dude, i think chemistry deserves to be hated. whoever dreamed up that subject should be SHOT! or titrated. lol. my sister and i say that Hell, where we’re going coz we are EVIL, is either
a) chemistry class over and over again
or
b) chemistry LAB where every machine you have to use is broken, and every experiment keeps going wrong.
SIGH.
I love the carby photos below
My Costco has those huge boxes of oats, but they’re not the quick cooking kind!
Ah yes, buying diapers is my favorite part of the Costco trip….ummm, yeah. “Cha-ching!”
wow. it was soooo goood! i wa slike, i loves! i LOVES! what is your favorite Amy’s product?! i’ll go try it.
he REALLY EATS CHUNKY SOUP!? -____-
Hey Jenna! Love your blog
Just wanted to let you know that you won the ExerciseTV 3DVD giveaway over at my site (!!) — just send me your mailing info so I can pass along to the awesome folks at ExerciseTV and they should be yours soon!
Oh, and as for a squash recipe, I have made this baked squash combo outta acorn squashies and I am sure it would work nicely with butternut as well. It seriously tastes like dessert and is so good for you – my boyfriend loves it too!
http://cookinfanatic.wordpress.com/2009/10/09/in-lurve-with-roasted-broccoli-3/
aww night owl. but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! i do most of my studying early in the morning after the treadmill death.
Hey Jenna!!! So I’ve been incessantly checking your OTHER blog day after day after day waiting for you to post and then I realize you got a new site–I feel so out of the loop now!! I usually catch on to these things!! Okay, totally reading through all the posts I missed right now! I was starting to get really worried too! WAHH!!!
I just cut the b-nut in half lengthwise and roast it up for an hour! Don’t bother peeling it because it’s so difficult. After it’s roasted the peel comes RIGHT off!
that’s alot of yoghurt!
are you ready for the BEST soup recipe? saute half an onion, three garlic cloves with i tsp oil and 3 tsp curry powder…then add in can of pumpkin and mix up…add in one can of chicken broth….simmer for 15. open the lid, pour in one green apple diced, and quarter cup milk. Simmer for 10…soupy not thick and creamy, but SOOOO delish. You can also do this in a crock pot, just add apples and milk 20 minutes prior.
not going to lie, I totally have that two pound box of oats sitting in my room
its total love. haha
I’m glad you found my new blog site! I missed you, girl!
Snuffy is GORGEOUS! And I totally have that brown bow she’s wearing in her hair. How old am I?
Butternut squash soup is really easy to make: steam squash and onions, add broth, garlic, salt and spices and puree. So yummy!
SO glad I found your blog!!! I adore it (and you!) hehe.
I Must must must get a banana clip (for food not the hair hahaha)! I end up putting half a banana in a zip lock every time and it is very wasteful!
That banana clip is an awesome idea!!
