Biggest Loser Vs. BioChem: Battle Of The Protein Powders
I have been talking (typing
) a lot about protein lately. I’m starting to see the results of my workouts and nutrition. That motivates me to make even better choices when it comes to what I put in my mouth. (TWSS?) I have always known that snacks should provide both carbohydrate and protein but that doesn’t mean I always follow that guideline. Since protein powder is more processed than most of my food choices, I have not used protein powder consistently in the past. But it is a great way to make a balanced snack or “mini meal”. A little frozen fruit, nut butter and milk of choice and you have a meal in a cup! I like frozen banana, almond butter, unsweetened vanilla almond milk and sometimes a lil fresh baby spinach. I try not to buy a lot of cow’s dairy products. But, I have heard great things about Bio Chem Chocolate Fudge Whey Protein Powder. I wanted to try April’s Brownie Batter so bad that I went on a Chocolate Protein Powder hunt.
However, I saw The Biggest Loser brand of chocolate protein on sale so that was my first chocolate protein purchase. It tasted so artificial that I couldn’t eat it more than once. Yuck! So I picked up a can of April’s fave and I love it! Thanks April!
Let’s Compare

I really like The Biggest Loser show. I don’t like that The Biggest Loser name is thrown around as much as Tina Turner.
Now onto our star player…

Surprisingly Delicious
The nutritionals are pretty comparable
Nutrition Facts for Biggest Loser – Protein Powder in Chocolate
Notice: these values are based on one scoop of The Biggest Loser Protein Powder

Now notice that the BioChem Chocolate Fudge Whey Protein Powder has a serving size of two scoops
You can see that the nutritionals on both Protein Powders are almost identical once you take the serving size into consideration. The BioChem has less carbs but no fiber. In my opinion, the BioChem has a better flavor. BioChem also has a slightly shorter ingredient list.
I realize not everyone cares so much about protein powders. Not everyone finds excitement in comparing “health food” like me
I did create some sweet snacks for Mallard this week

I saw white chocolate chips on sale and I caved. We all know that processed junk is cheap because it’s made from cheap ingredients that are not nourishing to our bodies. But, I would rather bake for Mallard than let him grab a packaged cookie from a gas station
I based the recipe on the back of the package

- 1 stick Earth Balance
- 1 stick Organic Unsalted Butter
- 2 cups organic raw sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
- 1/2 cup cashew butter
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
- 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) HERSHEY’S Premier White Chips
2. Beat Earth Balance, butter, cashew butter and sugar in large bowl until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into butter mixture. Stir in white chips. Drop by rounded tablespoons (I like ‘em big) onto ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake 8 to 9 minutes. (Do not overbake; cookies will be soft. They will puff while baking; flatten upon cooling.) Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

I use protein powder but I’m vegan so I’ve only tried rice/hemp/soy protein. My favorite brand is Jay Robb! (Chocolate, of course)
I try & pick protein powder based off what I already get a lot of in my diet. So, I stay away from soy protein (already get copious amounts of that…)
i need to get a tub of the biochem! ive had the chocolate fudge and loved it-i heard the vanille was great too
I’m just now starting to dabble in protein powder as I start up my long runs. I just bought a tub of Nutribiotic brown rice protein (plain) because I tried a sample packet of it and liked it a lot more than I have ever liked other samples I’ve tried (Jay Robb Whey in my pre-vegan days, Vega, and Spirutein). I’m thinking it will make a great recovery addition because after a long run I’m really not jonesing for tofu or beans, but a smoothie or bowl of oatmeal I can do
I love hemp protein powder because of the awesome nutrition stats, but the taste isn’t always as good as whey! I’d love to try Jay Robb, though.
now how were you going to use the kitchen aid on the potatoes? I don’t have a masher either….just me and a fork and soore arms! But I do have a kitchen aid…do share your secret!
So glad you liked the protein! When I first started using them I was always afraid that I would get a nasty one. So I’m glad I can suggest a yummy one to others!
hey!
i just came across your blog and i can’t wait to keep reading!
i would love it if you could check out mine and follow
jenna
I like All the Whey Isolate protein powders. They blend well, cook up great in protein recipes, and taste good.
Thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking about taking protein powder again.
I’m just not a fan of protein powders. I think they are good for people who are trying to compete in tournaments for muscle building, I guess, but other than that I simply think they are a waste of money. No offense to you at all, as I know they are very popular, but I am a true believer in getting protein from milk, yogurt, soy, beans, meat, fish and poultry. We get plenty of protein in our diets, and taking in more than the recommended amounts simply isn’t necessary. I’d just rather eat the food!
The cookies look fantastic. I love white chocolate chips in my cookies, maybe even more than actual chocolate!
I hope you had a great Valentine’s day Jenna
oh yum, those cookies look delish! I have a bit of a White Chocolate obsession, that goodness for Torani’s Sugar-Free White Chocolate Syrup! I eat quite a bit of Protein Powder, usually Whey Isolate. Love to mix it with yogurt or cottage cheese, make pancakes, ice cream etc. Thanks for finding my blog and I look forward to following you!
Right now I’m taking Weider’s 90% Soy Protein Isolate in Vanilla. It’s actually pretty good. Tastes like cake batter.
I have never thought of putting laughing cow cheese into my potatoes. Sounds delish! Just came across your blog :]
Biochem is amazing as heck!!!! Chocolate Fudge rocks my world!!!!!
Have a great day girl, great post!! xoxo
I don’t usually use protein powders, but I just got one in the mail to try that is made with only 3 ingredients: Hemp protein, maca powder, and cacao. Mixed with a banana and almond milk you can barely taste it – it just has a faint chocolate taste. It is not grainy at all. I think that I will buy it once my sample is gone.
I forgot to say it was from Navitas Naturals!
Great blog and post!!! I cant have whey as I am allergic to dairy prods, so I stick with my good ol’ Vega brand products. I love them and get fab results when working out with them!
These cookies look so wonderful!
XXOO
Thanks for this post!! I was thisclose to buying TBL protein powder so I really like your comparison. I don’t have a favorite because I’m still researching what the blogs like but I need to up my protein intake.
Those cookies look fantastic! I’m a big fan of white chocolate mac nut so the white chocolate variety calls my name
Awwww thanks love : ) those mean comments are so horrible, but it happens!! Thanks for the kind words!!! I love ya!!! xoxo
That Biggest Loser stuff…meh…the nutritonal values don’t seem that good to me. I’ll pass.
I’ve wanted to try BioChem, I know a lot of people like it.
I’ve used Optimum Nutrition which I really like – the flavors are good! I have also used Designer Whey which I really like too. I’m expecting some samples of Jay Robb protein which I’m really excited about because I’ve only used whey proteins and I really want to try some soy and egg protein too!
Your cookies look great girl!
Hi! Thanks for the comments on my bloggie, it was GREAT to hear from you!!!!
My fave protein powder that I am not intolerant/allergic to is Sun Warrior brown rice in chocolate, followed by the Sun vanilla, followed by Jay Robb’s Brown rice vanilla, and then Jay’s chocolate.
Great looking cookies! yum!!!
I use Jay Robb vanilla whey protein powder in my smoothies. It gives the smoothie great flavor and even better staying power
Just stopping in to say hello and hope you are having a great week love!!! xoxo
MY bias is anything related to TBL is a BIG MONEY making machine…all glitter, a little glory, no permanent lasting-ness. Instant gratification, which is often not about WHOLE BODY LOVE. Right?
That’s some great info on protein powders! Thanks, I’ve been considering trying them out too. I have to just say though that those cookies look amazing!! Hubby would so want to eat the whole batch!
I use Spirutein Vanilla soy protein, but I’m always looking for suggestions. Thanks for the post!
Hey thanks for stopping by my blog! If you’re looking for an unprocessed protein powder I highly suggest Vega protein powder Vanilla Chai flavor!! it’s sooo good! i also really like Greens&Whey by Biochem, and the Hemp protein by Biochem is yummy too! I hope you have a great weekend girlie!! xoxo!
I use protein powders to boost my protein content on days I lift, since I lift heavy. I mix it into greek yogurt!
Does the Biochem have sucralose in it? That is my problem with a lot of PPs is the sucralose. That is why I like the Designer Whey naturals or unsweetened PP.
I love taking a break from working out sometimes, glad you took one too!! I am going to go do some cardio soon!!! Back to it!!! Have a great day girl!! xoxo
I couldn’t live without my powder. Muscle gauge nutrition, cake batter and chocolate caramel…OMG, they are too die for! They are made with natural ingredients and have 24g of protein for 1 scoop
Your other post had the comments closed so I couldn’t leave one, but I just wanted to thank you for making my night!!
I recently bought a sample of that Biochem powder! I really liked the flavor but I’m still shopping around for the “perfect’ powder, so I haven’t bought a full-sized tub yet! I agree with you about Biggest Loser products…the shameless pedaling of their stuff is ridiculous!
